Event to focus on 2012 sports volunteering legacy

A conference entitled ‘A 2012 Sports Volunteering Legacy for Suffolk - Are you up for it?’ is to be held at Kesgrave Community Centre near Ipswich on Tuesday 20th March 2012.

The event, which is focussed on responding to the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games to ensure a local volunteering legacy for the county, aims to:

  • Raise the profile of volunteering in sport
  • Identify the key volunteering issues facing sport in Suffolk
  • Establish structures & actions that can address some of the key issues
  • Showcase good volunteering practice in local sport in the county

The evening event, which is free of charge, is being organised by the Suffolk 2012 Volunteering Legacy Project. It will include key note speakers, discussion groups and an opportunity for delegates to identify key actions for their organisations. Organisers say that it will be useful for volunteers in sport as well as representatives from sports clubs and organisations, disability sport groups, volunteer centres, borough and district councils, youth and community groups, education providers and other key stakeholders.

Spaces are limited with those interested encouraged to log on to www.2012legacyproject.eventbrite.co.uk to secure a place.

Further information about the event is available Mike McCarthy, Suffolk’s 2012 Volunteering Legacy Officer, on 01473 275196 or at 2012legacy@volunteeringsuffolk.org.uk.
